Our How to Play videos are designed to be short (but still complete) instructional videos, mainly for people who want an overview before playing with someone who knows how to play (in place of that person teaching the rules). Setup and refresh is usually in a separate video, since only one person needs to know the details.
Roy (from Epic Gaming Night) had a great idea for different content creators to make custom board game pogs! A few of us made them, and I also decided to make a song parody of the Pokémon theme song for some extra fun! Footage from Epic Gaming Night and Plumpy Thimble in addition to Board Game Blitz.
Hi! This is Ambie from Board Game Blitz, and today I’m gonna show you how to play Pogs.
Setup [0:10]
Before you begin the game, decide which mode you are playing - For Keeps or Not For Keeps. If playing For Keeps, then everyone will keep the pogs that they won during the game. If playing Not For Keeps, everyone will get their original pogs back.
Randomly determine a start player.
Each player donates the same amount of pogs to play in the game. Shuffle all the pogs together and place them in one face-up stack.
Turn Overview [0:34]
On your turn, take the Slammer and throw it at the stack of pogs. If you are playing by American Tournament rules, you must hold the Slammer between your index finger and your middle finger, without using your thumb (throw with palm facing up? flicked downward, over the back of the wrist). Otherwise hold it however you want to. You get one chance to throw per turn, whether you hit or miss the stack. After you throw, take all the pogs that are now face-down, or have been flipped over, and keep them. Then restack the remaining pogs as before and the next player goes.
End Game [1:00]
Once there are no remaining pogs, the game ends. The player with the most pogs wins. If you were playing For Keeps, keep the pogs you took during the game. Otherwise, return them to their original owners.
And that’s how you play Pogs. Check out our website for more videos, podcasts, and blogs. Thanks for watching Board Game Blitz!
